Leaving Dashboard (UPDATED)

I have resigned my position of Senior Art Director from Dashboard. My last day will be March 31st. Details to come in this post in a little bit. For now I’m finishing out the month and helping launch two very cool Toyota sites and then relaxing a bit afterwords before continuing a new.

This was not an easy decision to make, on my part.  The past three years have been very rewarding and has had a huge impact on me as a person as well as my growth in my career. I have decided after much deliberation and conversation to take a recently offered opportunity to work with new people and new accounts at an agency in Toronto.

Dashboard is one of the strongest and most passionate teams I have ever had the pleasure of working with. And I am leaving on good terms. I wish them all the best.

(UPDATE – May 20th, 2010)

Now that it’s been a while since I left Dashboard I felt it was a good time to update on my status. I did in fact leave Dashboard to go to another agency as well as focus on Miner Thought. Both of which I am still doing. The new agency in question was GREY Canada – who are in the process of rebuilding their company with a much stronger attack structure to interactive and digital. Since mid April I have been working there as a Senior Art Director helping with their current clients and pitching new ones with a focus on digital. To learn more about my role you can read it in my CV.

Why did I leave Dashboard? So many reasons. But in the end it boiled down to time. I had been there for 3.4 years and in this industry that’s a lifetime. I had routinely said no to other agencies and head hunters alike over that time with a loyalty to my team and the culture at Dashboard – who I loved to work with. However change is good and I was feeling a bit burnt out and simply needed to give myself a refresher as well as work with new people and try new things. Going to GREY has given me the opportunity to work on more than simply interactive and I’m looking forward to not having to deal with inter-agency for a bit and being able to work on and control all sides of a given campaign. They are young, hungry and the momentum is gaining. It’s an exciting time for an agency who has fought the “old agency” typecast for a long time. In fact we aren’t really that big – small staff ready to grow and do great things – with a larger focus on interactive. I’m looking forward to it – and am even happier that I was able to leave Dashboard on very good terms.

Outside of GREY i am also still working on Miner Thought business – focusing on branding and design in all mediums for mid size, small and non-profit endeavors.
